As one of a growing number of "Property Guardians" Lucy Pook lives in a disused fire station in London for just fifty pounds (75 USD) per week. As long as you don't mind living in a fire station, school or warehouse you rent any number of empty commercial properties for a nominal rent with your utility bills paid for. Camelot Property Management has thousands of empty properties on their books in Britain, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Landlords prefer to have someone living in their property whilst its empty to deter squatters. It's also a cheaper option than using a security company. Tenants typically pay Camelot between 50-60 pounds (75 USD) per week. In return the guardians keep an eye on the place and report any repairs that need doing.
